1 year check-up

We took Pearson to the doctor this morning for his 1 year check-up. I was glad Matt got to come because Pearson had to get 4 shots and I just hate having to hold him down for those.
Pearson also had to get his toe pricked for a hemoglobin test.  Apparently he is borderline anemic.  You are considered anemic if your levels are 11.2 and his were 11.4.  He's not anemic, but the doctor said to really make sure I'm giving him a lot of Iron in his diet.  They will re-check him again at his 15 month appointment.
Other than that, we have a big healthy boy!!
I'm am so thankful that we had no real illnesses in Pearson's first year of life.  We a little sinus infection and a cough, but no fevers or any crazy things.  Praise the Lord!!
Pearson's One Year Stats:

Weight: 21 pounds 7 ounces (25th percentile)
Length: 30.5 inches (75th percentile)
Head Circumference: 18.5 inches (50th percentile)

(not so) well check-up

I took Pearson to the doctor this morning for his 9 month well check-up.
My poor little guy is....not so well.
He was on an antibiotic for a sinus infections a few weeks ago, but last weekend when the weather went from 75 to 45 it was like it all just came back but worse.  And this round he has had a cough.  He woke up Sunday morning sounding horrible. He literally sounded like a barking seal.  I took him to the doctor on Monday and everything checked out fine. Of course he didn't cough at all while we were at the doctor.  Since then his cough seemed to get worse and he's just been a little cranky and napping really well (which is odd for him).  My sister in law gave me the idea to record his cough so I could let the doctor hear it at our well check up today.

Listen to how bad his poor cough is.
\
(I know it's kind of weird to post audio of Pearson's cough, but it's mainly for my record to remember this if it were to happen again in our family.)

So at the doctor today he was tested for RSV(which he doesn't have...Praise the Lord) and tested for Pertussis (whooping cough).  We won't know if he has that until Monday or Tuesday.  Until then she gave us a steroid for the swelling of his throat due to the croupy cough and an antibiotic to clear up the Pertusssis if he has it, his clogged tear duct that is oozing yellow and greenish/yellowish stuff, and his snotty stuff nose if it's bacterial.  If he doesn't have Pertussis then this is all viral and we'll just have to ride it out for another week or so.

Oh and on top of all of that......he has ringworm too.  Disgusting, huh?  I have no idea how he got it.  We don't have a cat and we haven't been around too many kids lately.  So who knows? Stupid germs.

Looks like we will be laying low the next few days so my little guy can get to feeling better.  Will you say a little prayer for him?

Stay tuned for Pearson 9 month post later today!!

6 month check up

Yesterday I took Pearson to the doctor for his 6 month well check-up.
Since our appointment was at 8:30am Matt was able to go with us and just go into work a little late!
Our big healthy boy checked up perfectly.  He's hit all his milestones and is growing right on his growth chart.
He weighed 16 pounds 14.5 ounces (50th percentile).  He was 27 1/2 inches long (75th percentile).  And his head circumference was 44 1/2 centimeters (25th percentile).
While we were waiting for the doctor to come in, he couldn't keep his hands off the paper.
He tore it to shreds and even got a little taste of it!!
Pearson had to get 3 shots and one oral vaccination.  He cried pretty hard after his shots.
It just breaks my heart to see him cry.  I'm glad Matt was there to help comfort him.
We go back to the doctor in 4 weeks for a flu shot booster, then our next appointment isn't until he is 9 months old.  Thankfully there are no shots at that appointment!!

4 month check up

I took Pearson to the doctor for his 4 month check up today.

Dr. Grace said he looked perfect!! I'm so glad our baby boy is so healthy!!
 He weighed 14 pounds 7 ounces (25%).
He was 25 1/4inches long (50%).
His head circumference was 16 1/4 inches (25%).
Sadly we had to get more shots.
He cried hard right after the shots but calmed down really quick.
He was very chill this afternoon after his shots.  He even took about an hour and a half nap, which is really long for him these days.  He had a little trouble going to sleep tonight.  He was pretty fussy, and normally he goes right down.  I had to give him some Tylenol and rock him to sleep, but I sure enjoyed getting some extra snuggles from him.

my brave little boy

Pearson woke up in a good mood this morning and was all smiles.
Poor baby had no idea he was getting his two month old shots at his well check-up today.
Pearson is a healthy growing little boy.  He's hit all the little milestones he is supposed to have hit and checked up perfectly.   He weighed 11 pounds 15 1/2 ounces (50%).  He was 23 3/4 inches long (75%).  His head circumference was 15 1/2 (25%).
I thank God everyday that our baby boy is healthy. We are so blessed.
After the doctor check him out, it was time for the dreaded shots.
He really did pretty good.  He screamed like I have never heard him scream before for just a little bit and then he was fine.
But thankfully he fell asleep in his carseat before I had even pulled out of the parking lot.

He was really sleepy when we got home and around 3 he got really fussy. I'm so thankful he's not normally fussy because it has worn me out.  We've just given him lots of extra hugs & kisses and struggles tonight.
Hopefully I can get him to settle down tonight so we can get a good night's rest.
I'm so proud of my brave little boy.

1st doc appointment

We had our first doctor's appointment for Pearson today.  Our appointment was at 10:45 and the office is literally 5 minutes from our house.  Who knew it was so difficult to get everybody dressed and out the door by 10:30? I was able to put make-up on, but I didn't have time to get dressed.  We made it on time though, so that's all that matters right?
As soon as we took him out of his car seat, we realized he had peed out of his diaper so we had to change him.  During our outing yesterday we used nothing out of his diaper bag, today we used just about everything!!
We left him undressed so we could get his weight.  He weighed 7 pounds 6.5 ounces.  He gained 3.5 ounces in two days!! Yay!!!
When the doctor tried to listen to his heart Pearson started screaming.  She asked us if we had a paci to calm him down. We haven't given him a paci yet she had to improvise.
She put a glove on and let him suck on her finger.  He was a happy camper.  She said that if we give him a paci, he is going to love it because he was going to town on her finger.
We briefly met with Dr. Grace whenever we "interviewed" her when I was pregnant, but this was our first time to see her.  We absolutely loved her.  She was very thorough and answered all of my crazy new Mommy questions.
She said he was a healthy growing boy. We got back next Friday for his 2 week appointment.

our first outing

Today was Pearson's due date.  I'm so glad that he decided to make his entrance into this world a few days early.  We have enjoyed every moment with him.

We took him out for his first little outing today.  We had an appointment at the hospital to have him weighed, get his bilirubin levels check and have an appointment with a lactation nurse.  He snoozed all the way over to the hospital! He was a little angel in the car.
When Pearson was born, he weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces.  When we left he weight 7 pounds 2 ounces.  He had lost 9.9% of his birth weight.  Most doctor like to have you supplement when babies lose 10% of their birth weight.  I really didn't want to supplement with formula, so I was really hoping he had gained weight.  When they weighed him, he only weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces.  He only gained about an ounce.  I was really hoping he would have gained more, but my milk just came in yesterday so hopefully the gaining will start really soon.

His bilirubin levels were perfect.  No jaundice for this little guy!!

The last part of our appointment was with the lactation nurse.  Up until this point we had had the best experience with the lactation nurses at Plano Presby.  Two lactation nurses came to visit me in the hospital and both were so positive and had so much good advice to give.  They both said I was doing great nursing and said Pearson was doing a good job too.  The reason we met with a lactation nurse today was because he had lost so much weight.  They wanted to make sure that we were doing everything right with breastfeeding to get him to be gaining his weight back.  This nurse though was CRAZY.  All of the sudden, according to her, I didn't know what I doing, I was holding him wrong, he was latching on wrong, he wasn't sucking effectively, he wasn't getting enough.  You name it.....we had every problem.  She even gave him some formula without asking me.  After he had the formula he fell fast asleep and she said now look at him.....now he is perfectly satisfied.  I left the office in tears because I felt like she had completely torn me apart and made me feel like I didn't know what I was doing. And then we had to buy all these stupid Medela breast pump parts that I didn't need.  We had to buy them though because she made me use them in her office.

I finally calmed down when we got home and I just had to tell myself that 2 out of 3 nurses said that I was nursing him wonderfully.  He's pooping and peeing and sleeping great so he must be eating great.  He will eventually gain weight.  I'm really hoping that he has gained some weight when we go to the pediatrician tomorrow.
