office space

We have an extra bedroom in our house that is supposed to serve as our "office", but I just hate being in there. It's the only unfinished/not decorated room in our house. I have no desire to finish it because someday it's going to have to be a nursery. (Not any time soon though, so don't get your hopes up!) So this past week I have been working on my new office space in the corner of my kitchen.

Here is what I started with....

A little desk that I got at a garage sale two summers ago for $2...

That was apparently a liquor cabinet because we unscrewed these off the side.

(I had been using it as a desk before I married Matt and the labels were all turned around. We didn't discover it was a liquor cabinet until the week!!)

After completely taking it apart.....

....sanding it....

......two coats of red paint.....

......two coats of black paint....

.....a little bit more sanding so the red would show through...

.....and some new decorations.

This is how my new office space turned out!!

I wanted the red paint to show through a little bit more, but hopefully it will in the future with some normal wear and tear. I also changed the hardware from the ugly gold handle to one that matches the hardware on my kitchen drawers.

Here's closer look at the new decor. The large picture frame was on clearance for $5 because the glass was cracked and there were some nicks on the side. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with it, but my little decorator husband came up with the idea to put the L in it. The shelf was 50% off at Hobby Lobby and the lamp, chair and all the picture frames are old decorations I had in college. The bulletin board was also something I had in college, but it was green, so I just painted it black.

I just love my new office space!!

honeymoon

Our one year anniversary is quickly approaching, so on our to-do list this weekend is to plan a little getaway to San Antonio for the weekend of our anniversary. I am so excited to go to San Antonio because the last time I went was when I was a little. I don't remember anything. As excited as I am to go to San Antonio, I can't help but think of our last vacation together. Our honeymoon.

Oh how I want to go back!!!

So while I'm dreaming of going back, I'll share with you our honeymoon!!

On our wedding night we stayed at the Gaylord Texan. We stayed in a beautiful suite that over looked the inside of the hotel.

Matt was so smart and booked our flight at 1pm so we got to take our time before we headed to the airport. We slept in and then got breakfast at the River Walk Cafe.

After breakfast we walked around the resort then caught a shuttle to the airport to fly to Playa del Carmen.

We stayed at The Royal Hideaway. We would totally recommend this all-inclusive resort to anyone. It is amazing. I just found out that one of my friends I teach with is going here for her honeymoon in November. I'm so excited for them.

During the day we spent most of our time soaking up the sun and laying out by the beach or pool.

We even met some friends that were married on the same day and were from Longview.

Every evening we got all dressed up to eat at some amazing restaurants. I don't think there was anything we ordered that we didn't like. There were 5 different restaurants at the resort. There was a Mexican restaurant, an Italian restaurant, an Asian restaurant, their Signature restaurant and a dinner theatre.

Our favorite night was when we went to a dinner theatre. The show was kind of like Cirque. The show was so entertaining and the food was the best food we had all week.

One afternoon we took a cab into town. It was so hot, so we didn't stay out long. Matt got to take a picture with an iguana.

And I bought some jewelry and some pure vanilla.

We had so much fun on our honeymoon and we can't wait to go back someday!!

my first digital scrapbook layout

Yay! I finally did it. I've been meaning to learn how to digital scrapbook all summer long, but I just haven't ever sat down to do it. The granite guys are here installing my granite and I can't leave my house. So I thought there is no time better than this.

So here it is.......my first digital scrapbook layout!!

*I'm not sure why the picture won't enlarge when you click on it. Hopefully I'll have that figured out by the time I do my next layout.

All I did to this page was add pictures and text. I got this layout from here. She has a wonderful tutorial that walks you step by step to making the whole page.

I feel an addiction coming on!!!

peanut butter treats

This recipe goes way back in my family. My Mom used to make these peanut butter treats all the time. We all loved them so much that we could take some and hide them from the rest of our family!! I introduced these to Matt when we first started dating, and he just can't get enough of them.

I dare you to make these and only eat one. They are just too good to only eat one!!

To make Peanut Butter Treats you will need....

1 c. sugar

1 c. Karo syrup

1 to 1 1/2 c. peanut butter

6-8 c. cornflakes

Put sugar and Karo syrup in a large nonstick pot.

Melt the mixture at a medium heat until it comes to a boil.

Set the pan off the heat and stir in the peanut.

Stir until the peanut butter is completely mixed up.

Pour in the cornflakes.

Gently stir cornflakes into the peanut butter mixture.

Form into small balls onto wax paper. Let them cool and harden for a couple of minutes before storing in a container.

Enjoy!!

**Hiding from your family and eating more than your fair share is completely optional.

Because my stove is no longer where it should be...

......my sink and countertops are no longer there.....

.....my sink is actually in the garage.....

.....my stove is in the corner and unplugged.....

.....my refrigerator is pulled out into the middle of my kitchen.....

.....my island countertop is gone.....

......there are countertops in my living room.....

......everything that used to be on my countertops

and in the cabinets is now in the hall closet.....

.....all my pots and pans and drawers are in the study......

.....everything under my sink is now in boxes....

That's why my kitchen is CLOSED!!!

go & be

Today our church did a really neat thing called "Go & Be: Engage Sunday." Our church went out in the community and served Christ by serving others in need. We got to BE the church rather than just going to church. It was a little odd going to Sunday morning church in our scrubby clothes and tennis shoes, but it was a very neat experience.

The bus that Matt and I were on went to a local elementary school to do some work. Most of the girls stayed in the building and worked on painting the teachers lounge. I worked on the mint green wall with a couple other sweet girls.

Check out Sarah using both ladders to paint the top of the wall!!

This was our whole group that worked on the freshening up the teachers lounge in less than 2 hours.

Most of the guys worked outside pulling out weeds, pulling up some steel beams and getting graffiti of of the playground equipment.

They also cleaned up their school garden and painted the picnic tables yellow.

It was a fun morning serving along side our ABF and others from our church body. It's amazing what 40 people can do in a couple of hours!!

Saturday night we headed out to Forth Worth with Jared and Sarah, our friends from church.

The reception was at the Texas Cowboys Hall of Fame Museum in the Stockyards. I had never been to the stockyards so it was a fun little experience. We definitely want to take a day trip out there sometime again!!
