a new way to save

Have you ever been to Aldi?
It's my new favorite store.  One just opened up really close to my house and I've already been 3 times in the last week!!  The prices are unbelievable!!

I have not done a very good job of couponing since Pearson was born.  Thankfully I was very stocked up on household items (i.e. toothpaste, deodorant, bodywash, shampoo/conditioner, laundry detergent,  dish soap, cleaning supplies, etc.) and I haven't really had to buy any of that stuff.  Grocery shopping was never really my strong suit when it came to couponing.  I always got my best deals on personal care items and cleaning supplies at CVS or Walgreens.  So just recently I've decided to cancel my newspaper subscription and put couponing on the back burner.

Gasp.

I know.

 Couponing Katy isn't couponing anymore??

Not really.

I'm still following my coupon blogs and catching deals here and there.  I've found that most of the deals I get have printable coupons. I've also found that most of the newspaper coupons are for groceries and  they never really save me all that much money.  Most of the time I end up buy store brand to save more money.  If there is an unbelievable deal that I can't pass up, I can always buy the newspaper at the grocery store.  But right now, I'm not saving enough to justify spending the money on a newspaper subscription.

This is where Aldi comes into play.

They don't accept coupons, but they have the lowest prices around.  It's not a full-size grocery store, but they have just about all the staples you need at a way better price than any grocery store.  They don't have name brand stuff, but everything I've tried so far has been great.  I'm going to be doing most of my grocery shopping at Aldi and Sprouts from here on out.  I'll still have to go to Kroger for things that Aldi and Sprouts don't carry, but I'm excited to be saving in a much easier way that couponing.

And because no post is complete without a picture of my little cutie......
My little shopping buddy at Kroger today!!

Don't try the Funions type chips, they aren't good. All of the other chips and pretzels are good though. Also, not a big fan of their soda. Joel doesn't mind it, but I prefer name brand. Most of the canned veggies are Del Monte, the milk is Borden's, and the meats are Tyson. The Ketchup is really good (I don't normally like store brand ketchup). Joel loves the Moose Tracks ice cream! Overall, the only thing I have tried at Aldi that I didn't like was the funions and the cheapest sliced cheese they make (it was $.89). The next one up that's $1.50 or so is good though. If you ever have any questions on products and whether they are good or not let us know. Joel and I both used to work there and shop there until we moved here. Now that there is one close to our we will probably shop there again!

I just tried the new aldi too. I had never been. I love it! I'm actually canceling my paper as well. Their milk is $1.89! Even the store brand at other stores is over $2. When your kiddo turns 1 and starts milk you'll appreciate it trust me!

I just can't do their meat. I've tried it, and it's just different. I prefer Kroger chicken. Their fresh produce is good, and if I can snag avocados there for guac I do. The animal cracker cookies are the bomb.com!!!

I've been wanting to check it out. We've been cutting back on our couponing a bit too. We just use the ones that we get for free with the Saturday Briefing and some printables. Thanks for posting your review. I really want to check out the milk now too - with Naomi drinking it, we go through it fast.

We LOVE Aldi! I've ben shopping at the one in Garland and get about 80% of our groceries there. I'm so glad to have one even closer now.

You can get the newspaper coupons for free if you sign up for the DMN Briefing. It comes Wed-Sat and the coupons are in the Sat edition.

I finally found the wonton wrappers! I wasn't looking in the refrigerated section. : ) Thanks!

There is an Aldi's just a hop skip and a jump from my house. I literally could walk to it. I do all of my grocery shopping there. Be careful with the produce. You have to use it up within a few days, so don't stock up on produce. I love that I can buy a week's worth of groceries for only $65 :)
