dress code violation

Apparently there is a dress code at the Rec Center.  Who knew?  Not me!
{Ignore the stains of my t-shirt. They didn't give me a dirty shirt, I just wiped my face on it and got make-up all over it.}

I was running on the treadmill and one of the Rec Center workers came up to me and told me I had to have sleeves to work out upstairs.  I don't think it helped that I had on the most noticeable neon yellow shirt.  He offered me a t-shirt to put on over my sleeveless shirt, and he said I could keep it.  So atleast I got a free shirt out of my dress code violation.

It's just such a bummer that I have to work out in t-shirts.  I have having sleeves.  Plus I just bought this new work-out outfit and I would have bought the yellow shirt that had sleeves if I had known.  Grrrrr. Plus, I think a t-shirt makes me look about 10 pounds heavier.

Oh well, I guess I'll just use this as an excuse to go buy some cute work-out outfits......with sleeves of course.

workin' out

Pearson was "working out" the other day.......
.......and inspired me to get my act back together and start working out again!!

I joined our City Rec Center on Friday and went to work out today for the first time! It felt so good to be back in the gym.  I love that I can drop Pearson off in the childcare to play and have fun while I work out.

We will definitely be hitting up the gym quite a bit this summer!! It gets us out of the heat, gives us something to do, and gets me back in shape!!

gettin' in shape

Matt gave me some new running shoes for my birthday.  They are Nike+ shoes so I got the Nike+ chip to go with them for Christmas!!
I'm having so much fun setting up my work outs on my phone.  It's neat to be able to know how far I'm walking and how many calories I'm burning.  I haven't worked out since early November so I'm trying to get back in the swing of things by taking some long walks with little P and the pup.
This app will be nice when I start the C25K program.  I still haven't decided when I'm going to start it.  I don't want to start until all the really cold days of winter are gone, but I'd like to run a 5K before summer when it gets really hot.......so who know when I'll start!! For now I'll just continue to take longs walks and do work out videos at home.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other health/fitness related news.........all my baby weight is officially gone!! I totally forgot to post about his before Christmas.  The week before Christmas I went to my last WW meeting for the year and I had lost 12.4 pounds for a  total of 8.25%. This morning I weighed and I lost my final pound to put me back at my wedding weight!! I'm soooo incredibly happy to be back to my normal weight.  I'm still going to go to my WW meetings this semester to keep me accountable to maintain my weight.

Now it's time to get toned up and in shape!!

75% nutrition/25% fitness

This is so true.
I started doing Weight Watchers about 3 weeks ago.  I love doing Weight Watchers because it helps me focus on eating right.   I used to be the kind of person that thought I couldn't lose weight if I wasn't working out.  But I have found that losing weight is all (or almost all) about nutrition.  I'm definitely working on my abs in the kitchen and not the gym (mainly because I can rarely find that much time to workout), and it's definitely working.

Right before I got pregnant I lost 5 pounds and got down to the smallest I had been. My goal post- pregnancy is to get back down to my "skinny" pre-pregnancy weight, not just back to my "regular" weight.

All but 15 pounds "fell off".  For the first 3 months, I literally did nothing to lose weight.  I ate what I wanted and rarely exercised (and if I did it was just a walk).  All I did to lose the weight was breastfeed.  It really does help the pounds fall off!!

Three weeks into doing Weight Watchers I am 5.8 pounds down.  I only have 9.2 more to get to my ultimate goal!!

saturday morning stroll

I'm not officially cleared by my OB to exercise yet, so taking a walk is the only form of exercise I can do right now.  Unfortunately, it's just been too darn hot to take our little guy out for a walk.

This morning  checked the weather and saw that it was only 85 degrees at 8:30am so we loaded Pearson up and went for a stroll for the first time!
There was a nice breeze and cloud cover at first but it warmed up really quick.  The high today is 103 degrees and it's supposed to be in the 100's all week.

Looks like we'll be staying indoors this week!!

smith slimdown

One of our 2nd grade teachers started an unofficial Weight Watchers group called "Smith Slimdown".

We are basically following the Weights Watchers program to slim down.  We are doing the program for 12 weeks, which takes to the week before we get out of school for Christmas Break.  We all paid $12 to join and all the money goes into a pot.  The person that has the highest percentage of weight loss will get the entire pot of money.  So far 32 people have joined, so the pot of money is at $384.  I highly doubt I will win, because I really don't have that much weight to lose, but I am super motivated to slim down a little, firm up and get fit!!

I'm taking the day off today, but I went to the school to weight in this morning and I lost 5.4 pounds!!

running

I usually hate running.......
.....but today I actually enjoyed it.

Since I made my sticker chart, I have done really good at working out consistently. I can't do the same thing each day though, soI have to mix up my work outs. Today I did my dreaded work-out.

Running.

Thankfully every time I run it gets easier and easier. Two weeks ago I was running 15 minutes. Last week I bumped it up to 18 minutes and today I ran 20 minutes. I felt so good after my run. Oddly enough I'm kind of excited to run again tomorrow.

I can't believe I am actually enjoying running!!

*gold star*

I earned my gold star today!!

See...

I ran 15 minutes and walked 20 minutes.
(I should mention that I HATE running, so 15 minutes of running is freakin' awesome for me!!)

I like to make lists and check things off, so hopefully a "work-out sticker chart" will work for me!! I've got less than 2 months until our cruise. It better work!!

I know, I know......I'm a dork!!

I teach Kindergarten, what do you expect?

Sticker charts are my thing!!

me and jillian

Jillian and I hung out this morning for the first time in a long time.

I've been so bad about working out this year.

I have lots of valid excuses though........tendonitis in my knees, the stomach bug, a sinus infection, decorating projects, and sleeping in.

Okay maybe they aren't all good excuses....

Anyways, I finally dragged my butt out of bed at 5:15 this morning to work-out before school. If I don't work out before school, it just doesn't happen.

I finally feel really motivated to work-out because.....
......we just booked a cruise in May!!

I can't wait, but I've got to get my booty in shape.

So.....see ya tomorrow Jillian!!

so much for that....

Remember a couple weeks ago when I blogged about having a December Resolution??

Well.....so much for that.

I went to the doctor last Monday and I found out that I have patellar tendonitis. (also known as "jumpers knee or runners knee") The doc told me I can't do any cardio or lower body workouts for 2 weeks.

Looks like I won't be doing the 30 day Shred every day for the month of December. I'm still trying to eat better, but I sure do miss working out with Jillian.

I'm hoping next Monday I'll be back to working out like normal!!

december resolution

Every January 1st, like every other human being, I make a New Years Resolution to get back into shape. I don't always necessarily want to lose weight, I just want to be more consistent working out and eating healthy.

I always do good from about January to August, but as soon as school starts in August, I get crazy busy with school. I don't ever seem to slow down until October and then I just get lazy. After I get over being lazy November and December hits and I get crazy busy again with the holidays.

This year I decided to kick start getting back into shape.
I started the 30 Day Shred video again today and I plan on doing it every day for the month of December (except on Christmas of course). That would be 30 days. I've never done it for 30 consecutive days. Heck, I never even did it 30 days. I did it 10 days before school started and then I had no time at all after that.

So my plan for the rest of the week is to get up at 5am and do the 30 Day Shred. I'm busy every evening this week, so if I don't get up and do it, I might not ever get around to it. It's only 25 minutes long, so I have no excuse not to wake up 45 minutes earlier to get my work out in.

We'll see how it goes. I'll keep ya posted.

Oh and I also downloaded an application on my phone called Lose it! I can track how many calories I consume & burn in a day. You can also set goals and keep track of your weight. It's really cool. If you have an iPhone, you should definitely download it.

Wish me luck on keeping up with my December Resolution!!

kickboxing or a butt kicking

Turbo Kick is the greatest kickboxing class ever. I love it!! I used to go every Sunday and Thursday pretty consistently, but it's been a while since I've been.

I woke up early this morning, so I decided to go to Turbo Kick at the gym and get my lazy butt back into workout mode. I'm seriously either hot or cold when it comes to working out. I always workout 4-5 times a week for like a month, then I don't workout at all for month. I am determined that this month I make it one of those months where I work out 4-5 times a week. I refuse to pack on the dreaded holiday pounds.

It felt great to workout today. I always feel so refreshed after a good workout. The only problem about this workout was that there was definitely more butt kicking than kickboxing!! I'll be heading back to the gym tomorrow hoping it will be less of a butt kicking!!

30 Day Shred

I love "The Biggest Loser." It's such a good reality TV show. (It's season premier is on September 15th, I can't wait!!) It's so motivating and it's so neat to see people change their lives for the better.
Not only do I love the show, but I love Bob and Jillian. They are amazing trainers. I would love to have one of them to myself. But I can't, so I got the 30 Day Shred DVD instead. I actually got it through our Netflix. So if I like the work-out(which I'm pretty sure I do), I'm going to have to buy it, because I don't think Matt wants me to keep a DVD for 30 days.
I did my first work-out yesterday and when I weighed this morning I already lost a pound. I'm not trying to lose 20 pounds in 30 days like the DVD advertises, but I sure wouldn't mind losing those pesky 5 pounds that have come around since the wedding. I am going to try to stay faithful to this work-out for the rest of the summer. And then I would really like to wake up 3 days a week and do it before school. It's only 20 minutes long. Surely I can wake up 20 minutes earlier than I normally do. We'll see how it goes!!!

I would love to hear if any of you have ever done the 30 Day Shred? Did you like it? Did you lose any weight or just tone up?

starting off right

Somehow Matt and I managed to go to the gym only twice in the month of May.

We started off right by going today, the first day of the month. Hopefully we will be going to the gym a lot more than twice this month.

As soon as school is out on Thursday, I am going to make a schedule of work out classes that I would like to go to weekly. There are a couple that I have never done, that I would like to try out. I really want to get into cycling this summer.

I always have good intentions to stay really active in the summer, but I always seem to find other stuff to fill my time with instead of going to the gym. I have a long list of this that I want to do this summer, but I'm going to make sure working out and staying in shape stays close to the top.

As soon as school is over I'll fill you in on some of the things I hope to be doing this summer!!

april fools

I got fooled this morning by my husband.

Last night I was complaining to him about the recent pounds that have been creeping up on me these days. Basically I was throwing a pity party for myself, and nothing he said was going to make me feel better. He gets so annoyed when I do this.

I woke up this morning and thought it was time to get on the scale and see if I really did have a reason to be throwing a pity party. I hadn't weighed in about 2 weeks, so I was dreading getting on the scale this morning, for fear it would tell me the ugly truth.

So I closed my eyes.

Stood there for a second.

Waited for the dreaded number.

So I looked at the last two numbers.

**I always just look at the last two number, because I know what the first one is.

And looked at them again.

I really didn't think I had gained that much weight.

I didn't have my contacts in, so I had to squat down to see if that number was correct.

And it was. Matt had changed the scale to kilograms.

So then I didn't feel so bad, because I didn't really know what that number meant. All I knew was that was way smaller than what I was used to seeing. I might keep my scale on kilograms. We'll see.

Or invest in one of these....

productive laziness

I have to admit.....I love watching TV.  One the new shows I've been watching this season is The Biggest Loser.  I'm obsessed.  Sadly most weeks I watch the show sitting in bed while eating a snack or dessert.  Last week I decided that thing were going to change because 24 hr Fitness has these awesome treadmills.

Treadmills with TV's.  Coolest invention ever.

This week I did crunches during the show and cleaned the kitchen during the commercials during the first hour of the show.  Matt and I rushed to the gym between commercials and then I ran during the commercials and walked fast during the second hour of the show.

It felt so good to watch my favorite show and work out at the same time!!

i be up in the gym.....

.....just working on my fitness!!

Matt and I just joined 24 Hour Fitness.  I'm so excited to have a work out buddy.   We got a super good deal.  Matt gets a great discount for both of us for working at Children's Medical Center.  We are basically paying less than what one person would normally pay for both of us.  We are going to try to make a routine of going on the same days each week so it just becomes habit.  We are both hoping to stay fit and I'm hoping to shed off the 5ish pounds I've gained since being married.
