oh the weather outside is frightful

The weather has been quite crazy here in the Dallas area this week!!

Day 1: Monday
It rained all night and everything was frozen in the morning with the temperature not predicted to get over 32.  We were supposed to have MOPS but it got cancelled, so we had a PJ day at home!!
Matt stayed home from work since most of what he needed to do could be done from home.  There was no reason to risk getting out on the icy roads.  Pretty much every school district around us was closed.  Most of the day we had to tell Pearson that if our bedroom door was closed, that meant Daddy needed it to be quiet to work.  There were a few times that Matt let Pearson come in, and he immediately grabbed his own computer and got to work too!!
While I have to get out of the house most days to stay sane, Pearson really does love staying at home and playing all day.  He is such a good independent player. He loves pretty much any activity I put in front of him.  My Mom gave him this kinetic sand in his stocking. I had been saving it for a rainy day, so today's icy day seemed like the perfect day to pull it out.  He literally played with this for hours……of and on almost all day long.  It was definitely a hit!!
We spent afternoon nap time FaceTiming with some friends.  We called my friend Gina and talked to her kiddos, Sawyer and Tyler, then talked Pearson friend Brynn, then we talked to Carson and Olivia at Lolly's house!!
We also snuggled up in bed and watched "The Cookie Show" (The Pioneer Woman's Cooking Show) that we had missed on Saturday.  Pearson loves watching that show with me.

We ended our night all snuggled on the couch with some popcorn for a good ole family movie night.  Our choices were kind of slim on Netflix, but Pearson chose Tarzan and really liked it.

Day 2: Tuesday
Schools all over our area were closed again because all the roads were still frozen.  Sadly this meant that Pearson's preschool was cancelled as well.  We busted out our entire Rainy Day Box and had lots of fun activities to keep us busy!  Books we hadn't seen in a while, play dough, sticker books, magic markers, coloring books etc.

This weather must be really great for naps because Nash took two really awesome naps!!  Matt left for work around 10:30 when the ice started to melt and he said he drove 80mph on the highway all the way home from work.  The roads were completely fine so after the kids were in bed I slipped away to CVS to do my weekly run.  I was going stir crazy in the house!!! Everything had completely dried, however sleet, freezing rain, and snow were in our forecast for the next day!!

Day 3: Wednesday
Matt had to leave for work at 6am for a meeting in Grapevine but that's right when it really started sleeting.  He decided to conference call in since the weather was only getting worse.  Most of the schools around us were on regular schedule, but very last minute Wylie decided to delay school 2 hours.  The weathermen said it was supposed to snow 2-4 inches so we told Pearson to be on the lookout for snow!! We all hung out by the window reading books while we waited for the snow.
And yes, Pearson was reading his books IN the box!

Around 8:30am it started to snow.  Pearson kept saying, "Look Mom, it's raining snow!!"  (And yes, he calls me Mom now…..it's so sad!)
After we put Nash down for a nap, me and Pearson went outside to "play" in the snow.  The weathermen got it right that it was going to snow, but it definitely wasn't the 2-4 inches we were expecting.  It was pretty pathetic.
It didn't seem to bother Pearson one bit that the snow was pretty pathetic because as he was hopping around making footprints, he kept say "THIS IS SO FUN!!!"  We stayed out for about 10 minutes because I was getting cold!!
We came inside and warmed up by watching some Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood on Netflix.  We just happened to be on Episode 33 and it was an show about a snowy day!! When it was over Pearson saw the title of the next one and it was a snowy day one too!! I decided to be a "yes mom" and let him watch two shows in one day, which is a rare occasion.  I figured how many times do we actually have snowy days in Dallas!!
While I've been itching to get out of the house, it's been nice to stay in my PJ's literally all day and have no reason to go anywhere!! It's kind of nice when life just slows down a little bit!!

donuts with my boys

At the beginning of February we got an ad in the mail for Krispy Creme donuts.  Pearson was pretty intrigued with the X donuts.  Every time we passed a donut store while we were out he would tell me, "Maybe we can go to the donut store and get one of those X donuts today!" The day before Valentine's Day, I decided to surprise him with a little date to Krispy Creme.  He insisted on bringing the ad to show them which one he wanted.
We had to pass a few donut stores before we got to Krispy Creme……the nearest one is about 20 minutes away.  I hadn't been there since high school so I was so excited to have a Krispy Creme donut too!!
Wouldn't ya know that they were out of the X donuts when we got there.  Pearson settled for a heart donut.
Once he started digging in he didn't seem to mind one bit.  He ate the whole thing.  I couldn't even sneak a bite.
This sweet face didn't want anything to do with a donut, (which is fine by me) so he had a granola bar instead.
After Pearson scarfed down his donut, he enjoyed looking through the window and watching all the workers make the donuts.
What a fun morning with my two precious boys!
I am so thankful for the fun little outings we get to do together during the day!

pearson {3 years 8 months}

  • You have been such a delight lately! I think we are rounding out the "Awful Threes" and moving closer to the "Magical Fours".
  • We have had some nice days lately and you love to ride your bike.
  • If I take Nash's pictures, you automatically ask me to take yours.
  • You talk a lot about when your going to be FOUR.
  • Naps are officially a thing of the past.  I make you rest with nothing in your bed for an hour and then you can read books until Nash wakes up.  I would say one out of every ten days you fall asleep for a nap, but it's a rare occasion now.
  • You have PJ's that have Grizzly bears on them and you call them Grizzle Bears.
  • When I am eating something, you way of asking if you can have a bite, is "Do I like that?".  I always tell you no, and you respond with.  "Is it spicy?".
  • If we answer one of your questions with Maybe or I Don't Know, you always say "Yes or No".  You need a definite answer!
  • You ask "How many minutes is it?" for "What time is it?"
  • You can completely tell time by yourself on a digital clock.
  • You can read so well.  I am amazed at what you can read.  You are definitely a sight word reader.  If we tell you what a word says, you remember it the next time you see it.  Such a good memory!!
  • You got to go to a Valentine's Day party at Lolly's house.  One of your favorite things was the "hot chalk" or hop scotch.

nash {12 months}

Dear Sweet Nash-
Where, oh where did my little 6lb 10oz baby go?  This year has absolutely flown by.  While it's probably been the hardest year of my life, it's also been the most rewarding and filled with so much joy.     I refuse to call you a toddler just because you are one.  You will always be my baby boy.

Sleeping:
Once again, we had another month of inconsistent sleep.  It's been a year and we still can't seem to figure your sleeping  out.  One thing I know, you go to bed so easily at 7pm on the dot and when you are ready for a nap you fall right asleep.  You are still a tummy sleeper and at night you sleep in your sleep sack.  As for how long you sleep at night and how long your naps are, we can never tell.  Most nights you sleep about 10 hrs and thankfully I don't think you woke up at all during the night this month.  You wake up anywhere from 5:30-7:00am.  There is absolutely no rhyme or reason as to when you wake up, but when you are awake, you are awake.  There is no falling back asleep after I nurse you.  Naps are anywhere from 30 minutes to and hour and half.  Rarely do you sleep longer than that……except for right now while I am typing this.  I'm starting to wonder what's wrong!!
Eating:
We officially dropped your mid-morning nursing.  You take a 4-6oz bottle of formula instead.  You get so excited when you see your bottle! Since you don't get bottle often, it's taken you a long time to finally feed yourself your bottle.  You will happily sit in my lap and let me feed you, but you really like to hold it yourself now.  You eat three meals a day and have a couple snacks throughout the day.  If we put food in front of you, you will always eat.  We still haven't found a thing that you don't like.  Most meals I have to cut you off.  You would eat all day long if I let you.
New Tricks/Activities/Accomplishments:
You started cruising around furniture this month.  You aren't very fast but you can definitely get around.  You are kind of getting brave enough to transfer from the couch to the coffee table.  Just today you have taken more interest in your walk.  You can walk pretty good with it. Before today, your little legs where like lead.  You would barely even pick them up.  You love to repeat after us and try to say what we say especially things Pearson says.  If Pearson starts to make noises in the car, it gets really loud because they just start going back and forth  You can say "da-da", "ma-ma", "buh-buh", "bye-bye" and "hiiiiii".  You can wave too.  Sometimes I think you know what they mean but sometimes I think you just say them not knowing.  You started playing peek-a boo, with us but you usually put your hands over your ears.  If we ask you where your eyes are, sometimes you will blink.  You love moving to music and dancing to the beat.
Likes:
Opening and closing doors, remotes, phones, iPad, baby goldfish, playing with cars in the hall, spashing in the tub, praise baby videos, playing with tupperware, playing with Pearson's toys, digging in the trashcan, trying to get into the toilet, walking to us with your walker, playing catch.
Dislikes:
Diaper changes, pulling clothes over your head, hats, hoods or anything on your head, when you run out of food, getting your nose wiped, getting in the carseat, when brother pushes you, when we take things away from you that you shouldn't have.
Other Random Facts:

  • You hate getting in your carseat all the sudden.  You throw a big fit and we have to push you down in there, but once you are in, you are completely fine.
  • Every single time I pick you up from the nursery, the ladies always comment on what a sweet and happy baby you are.  You always have the biggest smile and are so happy to see us when we pick you up.
  • You have discovered the potties this month so we have to always keep them closed and even keep the doors closed because you are figuring out how to open the potty.
  • You have the cutest little wave when we say bye or hi.
  • You can sign more when you want more food.
  • We have gone to Golden Grip Gymnastics a couple of times and you love to crawl around a play there.
  • Everywhere we go you always smile at strangers and they always comment on how cute you are.  We think you are pretty cute too!!
  • Still now new teeth, but I am beginning to wonder if some are coming in because of your sleep being so inconsistent.
  • You continue to have a very sensitive bottom.  I have to put the purple desitin on your bottom after every poopy to keep it from breaking out.
  • We have had some issues with your cheeks lately.  They will break out and turn red but we can't figure out what causes it.  Your exema cream that we used on your scalp when you were a baby seems to clear it up best.
  • You hair cracks us up because it's growing in like a skunk.  You have lots of hair straight down the middle and it won't part to either side so it just comes down to a point.  You also have hair in the back that always sticks up because your two little cowlicks collide.
Happy 12 months baby boy!!

Love-
Your Mommy
